Shorten URL - What all you need to know.

Hi friends.
URL shortening is a technique on the World Wide Web in which a "uniform resource locator" (URL) may be made substantially shorter in length and still direct to the required page without any effect. This is achieved by using a "redirect" on a domain name that is short, which links to the web page that has a long URL. (Source:Wikipedia).

For example, the blog which you are reading right now techtricksnet.blogspot,in can be shortened to goo.gl/nNSKQ1 using the Google's URL shortener. This is one such a fast example, but in general many times we come across the web links of very long in length, but when we wish to share those links using message sharing services like twitter, or text message, we will end up with shortage in characters. In such cases shortening of URL s helps a lot.
The other uses of shortening URL s are as follows :-
* One can shorten URL providing a specific extension text in the link after the domain which is easy to remember  (the extension text in the link might be short or long depending on the user convenience). A good example of this is http://tinyurl.com/techtricksblog which is the shortened URL of this blog which was made by using the TinyURL service provider.
* Decrease in length of the URL after shortening will be helpful to share the URL on the character restricted message sharing services very easily.
*  Long URLs must be copied-and-pasted for reliability. Thus, short URLs may be more convenient for websites or hard copy publications (e.g. a printed magazine or a book), the latter often requiring that very long strings be broken into multiple lines (as is the case with some e-mail software or internet forums) or truncated.
* There are many other uses depending on user to user.

Now. let us know about some of the URL shortening service providers.
* tinyurl.com
* goo.gl
* bit.ly
